Author Q&A

Q: What's Special to You About this Book?

Jayne Allen: The Most Wonderful Time is my fourth novel and the first that I’ve been able to write entirely as a full-time author! That means I was albe to research as thoroughly as I wanted. In the process, I picked up all kinds of incredible details for the locations. Plus, I was able to edit to my heart's contentment (through 8 rounds!), and make this exactly what I wanted it to be--a book I absolutely love and can’t wait for you to read.

Q: What Do You Think Readers Will Love Most About This Book?

Jayne Allen: I think readers are going to love the characters in this book - from the dual protagonists Ramona and Chelsea, to the two love interests Jay and Carlos, to Ramona's family to Chelsea's gallerist Helena, to even the "soft villian" Joan. I spent years developing the characters in this book and I think they and the worlds they live in are going to pop right off the the page and come alive for readers. It will really feel like you’re spending time in their world with them.

Q: Did You Write This As a Holiday Read?

Jayne Allen: The Most Wonderful Time is a book that’s perfect to read around the Holiday time, but for sure can be read all year around.  I can certainly see readers diving into it for the New Year/New Me time as well, since there's such a throughline of healing as a theme. It’s rich in Holiday references, but isn’t owned by them. So, the experience of the book to me is really all about the characters, the story, the themes, and the settings of Malibu and Chicago!

Q: How Do You See This Book as an Evolution of Your Writing Craft?

Jayne Allen: I'll probably sound funny, but one of the biggest challenges I think most writers have is writing really great sensual scenes in context as both steamy and evocative, but also deeply integrated as part of the story and character development arc. I’ve been working for years on writing these kind of scenes well and really good s*x. I even took an erotica-writing class under a pseudonym. Twice!  So, I’m particularly proud of the work that I did on the steamy scenes and put a focus on female-centered pleasure.
